I'm
the One Pushing: A Practical Renegade Guide to Choosing Your Own Motherhood
Adventure was written by Ivette García Dávila, who is a writer,
filmmaker, and the clever podcast host of I'mthe One Pushing: A Podcast for Moms Who Live Outside the Box. Ivette is
also the mother of a precious little girl and is expecting her second child. She
wrote I'm the One Pushing because she did not find a maternity book that included all she wanted to know about motherhood when she was pregnant
the first time. The books that she found favored points of views or lacked a
fresh and modern perspective about pregnancy and motherhood.
Based
on solid research, Ivette offers a myriad of excellent and fresh advice about
pregnancy and motherhood in I'm the One Pushing. She discusses
nutrition and exercise, medical tests during pregnancy, different labor
options, sex during pregnancy, and the realities of breastfeeding. She also discusses
important topics for after the baby is born, such as maternity leave and mommy
guilt.
I
wish I'm
the One Pushing was available when I was pregnant the first time ten
years ago because Ivette does not try to force a motherhood path on anyone. She
talks about the different choices mothers have during and after pregnancy, and
she does it without being judgmental. Examples are whether to have a vaginal
birth or a C-section and choosing to breastfeed or bottle-feed your baby. I greatly
enjoyed that she discusses all of these maternity topics with wit and humor. I
also appreciated that she is real about what to expect during pregnancy, which
is not all roses and rainbows. The fact that she shares her own personal
experiences, in addition to the research side, makes the book more genuine.
Without
a doubt, I'm the One Pushing is the modern maternity guide that future
mothers need on their night stands. Ivette offers mothers options, and most
importantly, she does it without making a judgment of what motherhood path they
decide to choose. If you are looking for an authentic maternity book, this is
definitely the one.
