My
Good Morning written by Kim Crockett Corson and illustrated by Jelena
Brezovec is the funny story of a cute and strong-willed girl getting ready for
school on her own terms. "It's a new day and I'm ready to go! But Mommy and
Daddy are so very slow", the girl points out. She wants to do everything
by herself, but, of course, she still needs her parents' help to complete tasks
such as dressing up. Parents are going to relate to this story because it
portrays how children behave when they are becoming independent. Morning
rituals can be quite an experience during this stage.
I
give the book two thumbs up for depicting a blended family during an everyday
happening because we need more books like that.
Brezovec's
illustrations are witty, modern, and hilarious. They bring they story alive and
are the best part of the book. The text is a mix of rhymes and prose, making it
a bit confusing. Different fonts are used to emphasize the text. The story would
have been better with a more effective arrangement of the rhymes and prose and
using less fonts.
