Summary
My Very Own Big Spanish Dictionary/Mi gran
diccionario de español is an excellent dictionary for young children starting to
learn Spanish. The dictionary includes 165 basic words in both English and
Spanish with corresponding illustrations. It includes an index in alphabetical
order, and activities, numbers, colors, and shapes sections. It also includes
the days of the week and months so children can learn about calendars.
Comments
The illustrations have an old-school feeling but
are engaging. I think that the listed activities are helpful. One is to "identify
the things in different groups in the book." My three-year-old was entertained
for a long period of time finding all the animals in the dictionary and
matching them to those in another book. The indicated age range is from three
through five, but I think older kids, who are starting to learn Spanish, can
also benefit from it.
